Michigan Agricultural Surplus Program

The Michigan Agricultural Surplus System Program (MASS) is a general fund grant the State of Michigan (SOM) gives to FBCM to purchase excess produce, protein, and dairy grown and produced in the state of Michigan. MASS was the first program of its kind, and has now been implemented in over 30 states.

We have created additional markets for MI farmers through MASS and with our national partner, Feeding America.

In FY24, Michigan food banks sourced 27,650,098 pounds of produce, protein, and dairy from Michigan farmers.

In FY24, FBCM also helped share 12,059,254 pounds of produce grown in Michigan with additional food banks across the country.
